This leaf on this dragonfly brooch is recycled from a vintage 1950s tin serving tray. The dragonfly is cut from a 1960s era toy sand pail. It measures 4" across the wingspan, and 4.5" long from the top of the leaf to the bottom.
The pieces are first hand cut from the old tin. Next I file all the edges until they are super smooth. Then I shape the metal a bit to give it more dimension, and to catch the light. I curved the tail all the way under to expose a bit of the yellow on the underside. The pieces are then then buffed to bring back some of the original luster.
The third picture is taken with a 10x magnification lens. Here you can see the original beautiful pixels of color, and quality of the edge work.
There may be dings, dents and spots on pieces, but this is to be expected as the tins I use are genuine antiques, at least 50 years old.
This jewelry is lightweight, very unique & completely original. It can be worn with anything, and complement any style.
